Word on the Suite
Check out this incredibly insightful article written by Ludovic Hunter-Tilney of FT.com. He comments on raps rise to prominence and questions if "luxury rap" has lost touch with it's impoverished Brooklyn roots. He also touches on raps voice with the younger generation as well. "Rock’s claim to be the voice of youth culture is shrivelling faster than its sales."

Tecumseh Life Code
So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.
When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Death of Junior Seau
Like many I am deeply saddened by the death of Junior Seau. I think this is a fitting tribute to his football career. The NFL has a lot of work to do to upgrade their preventive measures for head injuries. This becomes more evident as the number of former players that have committed suicide grows. None more polarizing than Junior Seau. Astoundingly Seau is the 8th player that has died from the1994 San Diego Chargers that made it to the Super Bowl.

Stewart vs. O'reilly on Common
I love Common and his music. It's an old debate but I love how Jon Stewart owns Bill O'reilly on his own show. To quote George Bailey from It's a Wonderful Life I would describe O'reilly as "a warped frustrated old man." Results of The Bill O'Reilly.Com Poll: Jon Stewart: 79% Bill O'Reilly: 21%.

HILL from thismustbetheplace on Vimeo.
"Allan is the caretaker of one of the few remaining structures that still stand at the old Packard Plant. Years of neglect have resulted in massive decay in this Albert Kahn designed factory. But, it has its own kind of beauty and for Allan is the place he calls home." (Vimeo.com)

Stephen Ross Hudson Yards Development
Billionaire Stephen Ross has huge plans for the development of the last barren portion of property in Manhattan. Ross's project was profiled in a March issue of Forbes magazine. The eventual development is described as: "The eventual home of 6 million square feet of sparkling office space, divided between three towers; toward 5 million square feet of residential space, a mixture of affordable housing, luxury rentals and high-end condominiums; toward 1 million square feet of retail space, including a movie theater and a department store. He gestures at the future home of the hotel, the public school, the 14 acres of parks and open space. A brand-new neighborhood, the rough equivalent of downtown Portland, Oregon. All on a 26-acre platform over a working rail hub. From scratch. “I look at this,” he says over the canned twang of a train announcement blaring from the tracks below, “and see the new heart of New York City.” Click the jump below for the full article.

Brock Mealer
Brock Mealer is the brother of University of Michigan offensive lineman Elliot Mealer. The Mealer brothers were in a horrific car accident on Christmas Eve 2007 that killed their father and Elliot's girlfriend. Brock was given a very slim chance of regaining the ability to walk. He proved he would overcome the odds when he lead the University of Michigan football team out of the tunnel for the season opener in 2010. Now he is even able to walk without the assistance of crutches! Brock trains at Barwis Methods in Plymouth, Michigan. Check out the E:60 special on the Mealer brothers and a video of Brock walking below. Simply inspiring.

How Recruiters See Your Resume
An article in Business Insider touches on how recruiters view your resume. "According to TheLadders research, recruiters spend an average of "six seconds before they make the initial 'fit or no fit' decision" on candidates."
"In the short time that they spend with your resume, the study showed recruiters will look at your name, current title and company, current position start and end dates, previous title and company, previous position start and end dates, and education."

I love when people speak their mind. New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella rips into the Pittsburgh Penguins for a cheap shot on one of his players that resulted in an injury. I completely agree with his comments. He labels the Penguins "arrogant" and "whiners". I would say those claims are accurate. Get em John!

Autism Awareness Month
April is World Autism Awareness Month. Autism is described as "a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating, forming relationships, and interacting with others." Autism currently affects one in every 91 children in the U.S. Autism was diagnosed in only one in every 10,000 children in the 1970's. The frequency of diagnosis has steadily increased since then. However, many professionals argue that the accuracy of diagnosis has improved leading to the increase in frequency. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined. My brother has Autism and growing up with him has presented its own unique set of challenges. The cause of Autism is currently unknown. Some professionals link it to children receiving all of their recommended immunizations at once at birth. Which my brother did receive. There is no medical cure for autism but early diagnosis and effective interventions have been known to lead to improvements. Studies have also shown that genetics and environment also play a role. There also seems to be a link between autism and engineering. Fathers and grandfathers of autistic children are more likely to be engineers than any other profession. Coincidentally my father is a structural engineer. I urge you to show all people who are of special needs patience and compassion. They long for belonging and acceptance JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. The Meaning of Dreams
I really think dreams have a significant meaning. This past Thursday I went to Michigan State for the night with a few friends. The weather was horrible on the drive home. As we were nearing our house my friend Dwayne (@DwayneDC24) mentioned he had a dream that we got into a car accident and he didn't want to mention it on the highway because he was afraid it would come true. As soon as we had ended our discussion about dreams and their meanings, a car pulled out in front of us and we got into an accident on Broomfield. Talk about irony.
